Child Find

It is the responsibility of the Wilmington Public Schools to identify any child who may have a disability who either:

  • resides in the Town of Wilmington and/or
  • is in a district approved home-school program or
  • who attends private school within the geographic boundaries of Wilmington (resident or non-resident)

Child Find is an ongoing process used by the Office of Student Support Services to identify children and youth from the ages of 3-22 who may be eligible for to receive special education and related services because they have a disability. Wilmington Public School’s Office of Student Support Services is responsible for locating, identifying, assessing, and evaluating (with parental consent) students ages 3-22, who may have a disability to ensure they receive needed special education and related services. 

The Office of Student Support Services is responsible for conducting Child Find activities to inform the public that every child with a disability is entitled to a free, appropriate, public education designed to meet the child’s individual needs. If you have a concern about your child, contact your child’s school or the Office of Student Support Services at 978-694-6032 to discuss your concerns and determine if further assessment is warranted.
